Candace Camacho
Singing and Sound Making Sessions

May 13–June 3, 2023
1–2pm

Led by La Residencia artist Candace Camacho, the sessions will integrate breath work, intuitive listening, and vocal music techniques with improvisation, experimentation and light movement. Together, we will fully enjoy our voices, celebrate our individual and collective power, and explore our contribution to New York City’s acoustic ecosystem. We will co-create real-time, embodied vocal compositions, embracing presence, resonance and harmony.

Sessions will be audio-recorded. Recordings will be made available to the whole group for playback and creative use, i.e. resampling and further experimentation.

No prior singing experience is necessary or expected. Dress comfortably.

Singing and Sound Making Sessions build towards Candace Camacho’s forthcoming presentation for La Residencia co-presented by Abrons Arts Center and Pública Espacio Cultural.

duendita is an artist from Queens, New York. They write and produce their own music, imbuing it with a reverence for their ancestry and faith. With their achy, bass-coated tones and mix of jazz, piano, soul and R&B, duendita’s music is evocative of the complexities and sentimentality of the human experience.
