Silsila, meaning continuation, reflects and honors the timeless journey of South Asian classical music, where each note carries the wisdom of the past while creating new expressions for the future.

Resonance evokes the lingering voice of the sitar - the way a note continues to echo long after it has been played, connecting artists, traditions, and audiences across time.

Together, Silsila: Resonance captures an evening where centuries of tradition meet the spontaneity of the present moment.

Presented by Tehreem Khan, this concert brings together masters, a disciple, and a new generation of students in a program of improvisation, rhythmic dialogue, and profound stillness.

The evening features:

  • Shri Jayanta Banerjee (sitar) and Pandit Samir Chatterjee (tabla) — two internationally acclaimed masters in conversation, exploring the depth and spontaneity of South Asian classical music
  • A sitar duet, with Jayanta Banerjee and his disciple Tehreem Khan honoring the teacher-student bond that has carried this art form across generations
  • A Dialogue Between East and West, a collaborative finale composed by Jayanta Banerjee, anchored by Pandit Samir Chatterjee’s tabla, uniting Tehreem Khan (sitar), Sikandar Rahman (violin), Pranav Shikarpur (bansuri), Shiva Kannan (keyboard), and Aditya Pillai (dholak) in a celebration of musical exchange

About the Artists

Jayanta Banerjee: Shri Jayanta Banerjee is an internationally acclaimed sitarist, composer, and multidisciplinary musician trained in the Rampur and Maihar gharanas under gurus including Pt. Santosh Bandopadhyay and Pt. Robi Chakraborty. He has performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including the Hollywood Bowl, Royal Festival Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and collaborated with legends such as Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Chitresh Das, and Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram. A composer, educator, and cultural curator, he is the founder of "Sambandh," a festival reviving the intimate Baithaki tradition through interdisciplinary collaborations across music, dance, and theatre.

Samir Chatterjee: Pandit Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso tabla player of the Farrukhabad Gharana who has performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo and the United Nations General Assembly. He has accompanied many of India's greatest musicians, including Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ud. Vilayat Khan, and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, and collaborated with Western artists ranging from Branford Marsalis to the Boston Philharmonic. Based in the New York area, he is the Founder-Director of Chhandayan, author of the comprehensive A Study of Tabla, and serves on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Pittsburgh.
