From Chinatown, With Love

For the fourth annual From Chinatown, With Love, Abrons Arts Center and The W.OW. Project celebrate Lunar New Year with hand-crafted charms that support small businesses in Manhattan’s Chinatown.

Beginning on January 14, 2023, patrons who spend $25 or more will receive a one page calendar. Patrons who spend $45 or more will also receive a free, limited-edition charm. The participating businesses include Kopitiam, Wen Wah Co., TLB Trading Co., EWA Trading Co., and Spongies. Each of these businesses engaged in the making of 100 charms bringing good fortune and protection for the Year of the Water Rabbit.

A celebratory procession will begin on Saturday, January 14, at 12pm at Abrons Arts Center (466 Grand Street). The procession will travel to each of the participating businesses and end at The WOW Project Inc. (26 Mott St) at 3pm.

About the Project

A collaboration between Abrons Arts Center and Wing on Wo’s The W.O.W. Project, From Chinatown, With Love honors and supports Chinatown businesses at the start of each Lunar New Year. Each business engages in a creative project led by Abrons and W.O.W.’s cohort of social practice artists.

About the Partners

The W.O.W. Project is a women, non-binary, queer, trans-led, community-based initiative that works to sustain ownership over Chinatown Manhattan’s future by growing, protecting and preserving Chinatown’s creative culture through arts and activism. The W.O.W. Project envisions a future of Chinatown that centers young women and nonbinary youth in building intergenerational bridges of understanding, collective empowerment, and solidarity across Asian American communities and beyond. Their programs include artist residencies, youth programs and internships, public artworks and events, and mutual aid.
