The Salsa on 2 dance class for teens/adults will introduce salsa dance concepts and music that will be used during the classes. Students will be learning beginning techniques and basic terminology. They will be able to add their creative expression to this cultural Latin dance. The students will learn salsa on 2 for social dancing first by concentrating on learning steps with musicality. After they have a complete understanding of the basic foundation they will be able to continue to expand their salsa vocabulary.

About Yvonne Gutierrez

Yvonne Gutierrez, teacher/choreographer/mentor of Cuban descent brings her emerging dance curriculum and connections to many establishments. As a member of NAEYC, a core founding member of the Black Flamenco Network (BFN) as well as a Mental Health First Aider she continues learning/networking helping to inspire and create experiences for the future generations. A 2022 Dance Teacher Award Honoree. Recently a featured panelist for the feature length film, Gurumbé: Canciones de tu Memoria Negra /performer at the 1st AfroMundo Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her teaching history has also taken her to work at Henry Street Settlement, Martha Graham Teens, Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, Concepts Dance Academy, the Joffrey Ballet, the New School University, Purelements, Marymount Manhattan College, LaGuardia Performing Arts High School and Flamenco Latino. Ms. Gutierrez past experiences also includes numerous performances with Latin Brazilian Jazz Band called Stringbeans under the direction of Annette Aguilar, Flamenco Latino Dance Company, Luis Montero Dance Company, AllNations Dance Company and Ballet Hispanico. Her Herencia Dance Company based in the lower east side started from an emerging community need for joy, positivity and cultural enrichment. She is constantly learning about the new initiatives inside and outside of the dance community that she hopes will continue to inspire all ages, while molding future artists.
