This is a ceramic sculpture class that draws on the physical qualities of everyday objects to make new, unanticipated arrangements. A series of prompts will guide the class through hand-building techniques in clay: pinching, coil-building, and slab construction. Objects may be enlarged, miniaturized, sliced in half, or abstracted to generate translations beyond the original. These sculptural arrangements may become nonsensical or humorous, but ultimately serve to draw meaning from ordinary life.
