About Carmen Antreasian

Carmen Antreasian has performed lead roles in several ballets, including Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and Swanhilda in Coppélia. Carmen briefly danced with Ballet San Antonio but decided not to continue due to the pressure of perfection she experienced throughout her training. Although she pursued careers in other fields, such as academia and competitive ballroom and Latin dance, she was continually drawn back to ballet through her academic studies. Her first Master’s thesis from Indiana University explores ballet choreography through a psychoanalytic lens, and she also developed and taught a class at IU entitled ‘The Geography of Dance.’ She then moved to Denver to continue her academic teaching career and found herself taking classes at the Colorado Ballet, where she met Jayne Persch, who taught her the incredible merits of ballet for all bodies. Ms. Persch’s pedagogy completely changed Carmen’s perspective on ballet training and has greatly informed Carmen’s inclusive method of teaching ballet. In 2018 Carmen moved to NYC, where she received her Master’s in Performance Studies from NYU and has since rekindled her love of ballet and passion for dance. She has taught creative movement, beginner ballet, ballet I & II and much more for New York City Tango, Hudson Dance Studio and DZ Arts Development.
